FYP1..WEEK 11:RESEARCH AND COMPARE BETWEEN RFID AND GPS



Have a few factors why to build RFID[1] Smart Guideline for Blind People. The main factor to do this project because have a lot of commercial product for navigation which provide with direction or navigation but not suitable because cannot use it in buildings. For example is GPS[2]. GPS is not suitable for visually impaired users to know the directions or navigation and locations but more suitable for normal people (1). Other factors are we know that most disabled people among low-income people and they prefer to do their things independently.

Most visually impaired people rely on other people, their dogs, and their walking stick to know the navigation in buildings. Besides that, many disabled people prefer to be an independence people. However, have several navigation products for blind people use obstacle detection is available in international market but they are very expensive and it is difficult to use. (2)

Other than that, Wireless Sensor Networks also difficult and expensive to monitor data and to control using wired sensors even these products are used in the world wide such as in industrial, commercial, environmental, and healthcare applications. (Dishongh, 2009)

RSSI[3] is means Received Signal-Strength Indicator or Indication. RSSI also is a similar product which used in navigation system. This product also is effective and better than another similar product to finding locations or distances through signal strength. However, it have disadvantage or effected by the direction problem. Signal strength very weak in buildings because buildings made from various materials like stone, metal, wood and so on. Besides that, buildings have a lot of walls and obstacles. Because of that, RSSI not accurate and not reliable when the values or data changes. (3)

Compare between GPS, obstacle detection, wireless Sensor Networks, and RSSI with RFID, RFID is means Radio Frequency Identification. It is using radio waves to transfer data from electronic tag. It is called RFID tag or label. RFID is more accuracy and efficiency than other similar product. However, RFID is the latest and the largest technology product to identify and detect locations, objects, humans and animals. Other than that, that objects can be identified and detected their surface markings are polluted, fading or removed and even though when they are tightly stay or packed together. RFID is much more an inexpensive and have good quality products. Besides that, it is more practical than similar product. Other than that, RFID system based on business also have a lot of benefits. It is good and fast in tracking application in warehouse. When a business have a problem which is visibility issues, asset tracking and so on, this technology can help to solve that problem with an organize to have automatic objects visualization which is no human intervention. Besides that, if use RFID can minimize the staff or worker cost who work for scanning bar codes and administrative errors.
RFID used in worldwide market, like laundry tag, animal tag for bird ring and ear tag and more. Anywhere, any environment and any application of RFID can be design can be implementing and can be apply. (4L) Hence, RFID Based Indoor Navigation System is very useful product for impaired users especially visually impaired users
